Assalaamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh
Anas (may Allah bless him) said that he heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Allah the Almighty has said: “O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as its.” [Hadith Qudsi]
Allah says in the Holy Quran, “Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”” (39:53)
The Prophet (PBUH) also said:
“Indeed, Allah accepts the repentance of man as long as he hasn’t started gargling (i.e. dying).”
To receive forgiveness from God there are three requirements.
. Recognizing the offense itself and its admission before God.
. Making a commitment not to repeat the offense.
. Asking for forgiveness from God.
If the offense was committed against another human being, or against society, a fourth condition is added:
. Recognizing the offense before those against whom offense was committed and before God.
. Committing oneself not to repeat the offense.
. Doing whatever needs to be done to rectify the offense (within reason) and asking pardon of the offended party.
. Asking God for forgiveness.
We sin openly and secretly, inwardly and outwardly, major and minor, to the Creator and the creation. And whilst we may consider some sins unavoidable, it is important that we seek forgiveness from Allah daily. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to seek forgiveness at least 70-100 times a day, even more than that. Yet he did not need that, it was only an elevation in his status overtime he sought repentance. We lose nothing to seek the forgiveness of Allah.
Don’t despair even if you have sinned alot. Sincerely repent to Allah as He forgives all sins. Never lose hope in Allah’s Mercy.
